Code Compliance Drawings

Noven Consulting prepares building code compliance drawings to help project teams communicate fire protection and life safety requirements. These drawings provide a visual reference alongside the code analysis and architectural documents for new buildings, alterations and changes of use.

Drawing content

The content depends on the building and submission requirements. The agreed drawing scope may identify:

• Occupancy classifications and relevant separations.
• Fire-resistance-rated walls, floors and other fire separations.
• Exit arrangements, egress routes and travel distances.
• Fire department access and relevant site information.
• High-building, smoke management or fire protection features requiring coordination with other consultants.

Code drawings are read with the associated report and the consultants’ design documents. Detailed system design is prepared by the responsible discipline.

Coordinating drawings with the code report

A consistent submission makes it easier to understand the project's compliance approach. We coordinate the agreed code drawing scope with building code consulting and reports, and identify matters that need input from the design team. Changes to plans or building use may require both the drawings and the underlying analysis to be updated.

The municipality or other reviewing authority determines its submission requirements. The scope should be checked for the particular project, including any Certified Professional services being provided separately.
